\\ history //

At the beginning of the 90s, a single-day floorball tournament was carried out for the first time in Deitingen. Because the tournament took place after Christmas, it was just called "Weihnachtsturnier" (Christmas tournament). The size was rather small because floorball was not very popular at this time in our area. During the next the years it was grown bigger and bigger with advancing popularity of floorball. Matches were often played until 1 am to keep up with the quantity of registered teams.

That is why we decided in year 2000 to arrange everything even more attractive by expanding the tournament to two days. We also included the AfterCupBar (players party) and gave the "Weihnachtsturnier" a new and international name - Christmas Cup.

Since years, we have regularly got over 100 team registrations. There were even about 120 registered teams the last two years.

In 2004, the female category was successfully established as well. One year later, we have started to offer cheap accommodation for teams with longer journeys to the tournament.

In 2006, the category "mixed licenced" has been introduced.

We have also noticed that the level of playing skills has been increased during the past years. Many players of the best Swiss floorball teams (e.g. Christoph Hofbauer and his brother Matthias – topskorer of the Floorball World Cup 2004!) regularly show off their skills at Christmas Cup. Last year, both Swiss Champions (UHC CeVi Gossau, small field; SV Wiler-Ersigen) participated in the tournament.
